Learning Institutions in Somalia lack resources for conducting scientific experiments and STEM practical. Thus, we created Mobile STEM Lab where students are able to apply the theoretical knowledge they have into practical. The Mobile STEM Lab provides engaging, hands-on educational experiences for students using a custom-outfitted and tailored made STEM learning resources and space. So, far this program has benefited over 1500 students from the local secondary schools. Our Mobile STEM Laboratory strikes a balance between cost effectiveness, accessibility, usefulness and impacts.
It is a program designed for all Somali high school and university students to learn, understand and promote deeply subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Students are encouraged to drive their own learning by asking questions, defining problems, challenging their own thinking and developing their own solutions for social good. This will lead them to become the driving force behind creativity and discovery. Since most of these students have never seen or used a scientific lab, the Mobile STEM Lab provides them with the opportunity to be innovative.
Through support and program activities, the Mobile STEM Lab has been able to create continued school partnerships, hence mentoring young learners to gain more insight in STEM subjects, especially girls and women. Our main aim is to increase student interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.
Our Mobile STEM Laboratory helps students gain deep understanding of challenging STEM concepts with projects that include simple and compound machines, autonomous robots and sensors, robotic, movement and mechanisms, and design challenges.
