Somali STEM Summit is an annual gathering of students, teachers, academics, researchers, and entrepreneurs to enhance scientific knowledge production and inquiry to find sustainable solutions for the evolving developmental issues facing Somalia and the Horn of Africa region. This year’s theme is “STEM in Sustainable Impact”. Clearly, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education are critical skills necessary for the growth and development of any nation and remain to be a major pillar that propels global economic development in health, education, and innovation.
A special focus of this year’s STEM Summit and in light of the devastating droughts in the Horn of Africa region as a result of global climate change is to dig deeper and find innovative sustainable solutions for hunger (drought and famine), gender equality, renewable energy, and youth/women employment.
Somali STEM Summit continues to level the playing field and advocates for women/ girls to be integrated into the decision-making processes and encourages them to specialize in STEM subjects to improve their livelihoods.
Aims and objectives
- To initiate, accelerate, and scale-up STEM durable solutions to tackle hunger, climate change, gender inequality, health, education, economic investment, and development in order to advance the sustainable impact
- To inspire girls/ women and girls to pursue STEM professions and to develop links between youth and professional job creators, employers, innovators, and policymakers
- To develop a mechanism through which STEM skills and education will be implemented to enhance innovation, creativity, and inventiveness in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
